The settlement of Poliochni is located on the east coast of Lemnos, on a hill that is protected by the bay of Vοroskopos.
In the Early Bronze Age, it flourished so much that it is now considered the oldest city in Europe with an early form of social and urban organization. Well-designed streets between houses, water pipes and residents’ meeting squares testify to the existence of a fully organized society.
In the center of the settlement a large area with stone bearings is an indication that there was the first “Parliament” in the world. Today it is kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens and has much in common with the famous “Treasure of Priam”, which was found in Troy by Henry Schliemann.
