Ammothines (Sand Dunes)
To the north of the island, on the slopes of the hills of the village of Katalakkos, there is an area of rare beauty.
The Thick Sands or “Pachies Ammoudies” according to the locals, are sand dunes, hills of fine sand and a few scattered phrygana, which convey the charm of the desert in the northern Aegean.
They cover an area of about 70 acres in the Gomati area and create an impressive landscape, unique to Greece.
